Ah the blood and thunder approach...quite a common "motivational style" in lower division football I'd suggest.I suppose Neil Warnock would be amused that his coaching inadequacies(real or perceived) are highlighted by people who haven't achieved one tenth of what he has in football,like it or not.Don't know what I think of this stuff:hardly technical,but what about the clipboard bore who stats everyone to death at half time?The overly analytical is as dangerous as the neanderthal in my view...

Furthermore,I'm bemused as to why this is shown in YOUTH level coaching courses,presumably as an example of "bad coaching".Using a clip from professional football,albeit lower level,involving grown men,is hardly applicable to youth level is it?The course convenors would be better off going down to the local park and filming youth coaches there:examples abound of this kind of "coaching"...
Using Warnock's rant is hardly comparing like for like is it?

I would totally disagree that this is prone to lower division football.You can almost bet that a lot of EPL managers are a bit like this.

Yeah undoubtedly,but is it the major tool of their coaching technique?I'd suggest not,whereas I'm pretty sure nobody would blink an eyelid at Warnock's ranting in the lower divisions,as it's probably the central method used by many

The fact that he was ranting does not necessarily mean that he is not a good coach/manager.It won't be a major tool of their coaching technique.
I have heard a lot worse than that.

There was another video of a coach for a youth team (not sure of age) doing a similar thing. Can't find it on youtube though.
Clearly it isn't a technique that will help identify areas of improvement and highlight areas where things are going well.

Which really brings it back to my central point:was it fair or valid to use this video for a YOUTH coaching course:taking an example from the professional game and using it in this way is in my view,a rather unnecessary way of conveying the coaching vision

I think you're being ignorant if you don't think similar thing happen around the country at a youth level.
Sure it was a video of a professional team, but try finding easily accessible videos for youth teams. Pretty hard to. You're making a mountain out of a molehill.

participation apparently has not been too high
last one to do is Fitness. Hopefully NZF has Level 3 ready for the new year. John Herdman had a heap to do with this IIAIK and I hear he took the Canada job
Hi everyone,
Smithy and I just completed the Youth Level 2 - Tactical Module coaching course so thought it would be a good idea to just some information and thoughts about it.
For those that don't know, Youth Level 1 concentrates on techniques on how to coach at an age appropriate level. Where as Youth Level 2 builds on this by providing offering four seperate modules:
1) Tactical
2) Technical
3) Player centred coaching
4) Football fitness
The first section of the module looks at playing formations by comparing the 4-4-2 against the 4-3-3. Overall there is a philosphy that playing with a singular persevered formation helps players' enjoyment and development by limiting information overload.
The next part covers game day coaching. Section mainly covers how to identify good and bad play, and how to portray this to your players.
Third part looks at how to increase your knowledge of the game by looking at 4 key moments in games: Defensive transition, attacking transition, defensive organisation, attacking organisation. This section includes a number of videos that cover these moments, where coaches examine and critique strategy, positioning, movement and actions of players.
The fourth section quickly covers how to develop a tactical training session, and what things are important to make them successful.
And finally, the last section is a practically application where coaches play a mini game, and observe the action, much like the video analysis.
Overall, I thought the course was excellent. Time seemed to fly by which is always a good indication as to the usefulness of it. There isn't any practical assessment of coaches. Good mix of theory and practical work, that include a great video of a Neil Warnock half time team talk (cringe worthy stuff). The only downside I could see is that some of the presentation and course document was overly wordy, and could have been simplified. But overall, well worth the $85.
